Vile Roots is a top-down arcade game made in 48 hours for Global Game Jam 2023! It was made by myself and Tantawii. Play as a nameless knight to survive an ever-growing army of enemies, and beware the corrupted bushes that grow roots that slow you down... Try to get the best score possible before succumbing to your death!

How To Play: Move with WASD, attack by pointing and holding left click. Press ESC to pause. Kill bushes to stop roots from spreading!

Note: Web builds in Godot 4 can be slow/glitchy. Try the Windows build instead if you're having issues (download below)!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.2: Added pause menu and audio settings, replaced roots sprite, minor optimizations

Version 1.1: Fixed collision bugs, rebalanced the game a bit.

Web play doesn't work.

Missing:

Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

Hmmm, I do have those enabled and it does work on my end. What browser are you using, and are you on MacOS by any chance?

Yeah, MacOS and Safari

Ah, that makes sense. The game engine I'm using (Godot 4) has issues with MacOS browsers. I hope it gets fixed soon but there's nothing I can do to fix it. Sorry!

Ah, thanks for the heads up! (I'm currently learning Godot 4 myself, so I'll keep this in mind if I get something out I'd like to show in itch.)

FUN NICE JOB BOSS

I like how the game gets progessivley harder but the map is too small so at one point it's practically impossible to not lose.
